Overall Accountability

The Accounting Officer is responsible for assisting school administrators in the review of their school generated funds, fees, donations and budget allocations to the schools and forecasting future expenditures. The Accounting Officer is also responsible for supervision, assistance and training of school-based personnel with respect to accounting procedures, controls and financial reporting of these funds.

 

Specific Accountabilities

  • Fulfills financial advisor role to school administration and staff with accounting for school generated funds and scale of issue budgets, including developing and conducting training sessions, providing training and mentorship for staff and generating and maintaining financial information on the Intranet. This entails on-site visits, telephone discussions and email communications 
  • Identifies financial issues in schools that impact financial reporting for Calgary Catholic 
  • Audits school compliance with accounting procedures, internal controls and administrative procedures 
  • Advises school-based personnel on all internal controls including cash handling procedures 
  • Under the direction of the School Accounting Supervisor, is responsible for the school generated funds accounting system; including data and reporting integrity and all trouble shooting 
  • Monitors performance, supervises the work and set goals for Business Managers 
  • Liaises with Canada Revenue Agency on GST issues on school generated funds and with School Councils on accounting procedures and donating funds to schools 
  • Responsible for the year end accounting for school generated funds for consolidation into Calgary Catholic’s financial statements. 
  • Represents Calgary Catholic on committees related to school-based accounting matters. 

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in accounting
  • Three (3) to five (5) years related experience 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial software applications 
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks and work well with minimal supervision. ​​​​​​​
