Job Description

St. John Reception Centre For Arts and Culture 
15 – 12 Street NW, Calgary 
Overall Accountability 

Interpreters will work with Calgary Catholic personnel to provide effective interpretive services that facilitate clear communication for limited and non-English speakers. 

Specific Accountabilities 

  • Performs interpreting service for limited and non-English speakers and staff, ensuring integrity, accuracy and impartiality, in accordance with policies, practices, regulations and guidelines for interpreters 

  • Works collaboratively with personnel in a variety of situations related to the educational needs of the student 

  • Participates in ongoing professional development and training 

  • Ensures their contact information is current (i.e. payment, interpreter contact list) 

  • Ensures time sheets are completed and submitted in a timely manner 

  • Provides service in a positive professional manner at all times to students, families and staff 

  • Interpreter positions with Calgary Catholic are dependent upon interpreter availability and language needs 

Qualifications 

  • High School diploma 

  • Knowledge of the school system in Alberta preferred as Interpreters will work within the culture and guidelines of Calgary Catholic 

  • We are currently looking for: Amharic, Tigrinya, Bilen, Nuer, Dinka, Albanian, Malayalam, Kinyarwanda, Creole and Ukrainian

  • Successful completion  of either CILIAST or ILISAT language proficiency test required

St. John’s Centre offers the CILISAT (Community Interpreter Language and Interpreting Skills Assessment Tool) testing for applicants who require certification. Please note that there is a cost associated with the test, which is the responsibility of the applicant. Additional information can be provided upon request.
