Overall Accountability
The Casual Education Assistant works in the classroom assisting students with diverse learning needs. This includes those who have academic, social, emotional and communication needs (mild – severe) and/or reflect an Educational Support I (ES-I) learning profile.
Specific Accountabilities
- Assists students individually and in small groups
- Assists students’ self-care (dressing, toileting, etc.)
- Assists with assessment and data tracking
- Provides general supervision of students during out of class time
- Assists in planning and supervising field trips
- Photocopying, typing, computer data entry, phoning, bulletin boards, preparing charts, and teaching materials
- Contributes to class planning activities, behavior and progress reviews
- Assists with the implementation of Learner Support and other response plans
Qualifications
• Category 2 - High school diploma
• Category 3 - High school diploma and the equivalent of a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with DiverseLearning (DL) needs
May require any of the following depending upon assignment:
- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certificates
- Behaviour management training
- Lifting techniques
- Rehabilitation experience
- Restrictive intervention practices
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
