Job Description

Overall Accountability

The Cleaner is accountable for performing all general cleaning duties as scheduled by a Head Caretaker, Assistant Head Caretaker or Caretaker, in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the District’s Occupational Health and Safety practices and procedures.

Specific Accountabilities

Under the direction of a Head Caretaker, Assistant Head Caretaker or Caretaker:

  • Performs cleaning duties, including but not limited to: sweeping and mopping floors, emptying garbage, vacuuming carpet areas, washing furniture, cleaning glass, washing walls and general dusting as well as heavy cleaning/custodial duties such as floor care, snow removal and grounds maintenance
  • Safely moves equipment and supplies
  • Assists in the servicing and operating of mechanical and heating systems
  • Coordinates on-site school facility operations for public use rentals as required
  • Performs general security checks and secures the school and/or worksites as required

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License Class 5
  • Vehicle in good working condition

Other Skills

  • Demonstrated communication skills in both oral and written English
  • Successfully complete a physical demands analysis
  • Must be self-motivated with the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work safely on ladders at heights of 6 to 10 feet or higher on occasion
  • Working knowledge of basic computer applications

The successful candidate is required to be available to work both the day shift (7am - 4pm) and afternoon shift (3.30pm - midnight).
