I. OVERALL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The role of the Teacher is to provide instruction, assess student achievement and communicate with stakeholders in the school district. The teacher will model effective instructional practice, to contribute to job embedded professional development and to help build the school’s capacity to support student success. The teacher will teach in a manner that is consistent with the values, morals and ethics of the Catholic faith and within the guidelines of The Alberta Education Act, Teaching Quality Standards (TQS), Teaching Professional Code of Conduct and Calgary Catholic School District’s (CCSD) Administrative Procedures.

II. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in education from a recognized educational institution
  • Valid Alberta professional teaching certificate
  • Knowledge of the Teaching Quality Standards
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies, resources and materials that support best practices in instructional programming for student success
  • Knowledge of Alberta Education’s mandates related to programming for students with diverse learning needs, including experience with the criteria, process of coding and related Learner Support Plan (LSP) development and implementation.
  • Knowledge of effective assessment of student learning
  • Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques that encompass group and individual behavior, peer influences and Christ-Centered values
  • Competency in the English language both written and oral
  • Committed to the values of a Catholic school division
  • Create a classroom environment that respects and celebrates diversity, fosters a sense of belonging, and encourages open dialogue.
  • Implement teaching strategies that are sensitive to the unique needs of Indigenous students and provide additional support as needed.
  • Knowledge of effective assessment of student learning
  • Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques that encompass group and individual behavior, peer influences and Catholic values
  • Competency in the English language both written and oral
  • Committed to the values of a Catholic school district

III. DUTIES:

  • Competently plan for, provide and assess instruction to students
  • Regularly assess student performance and communicate results to students, parents/legal guardians and school administration
  • Effectively communicate with parents/legal guardians, school personnel, and district personnel where necessary
  • Maintain a safe and caring environment that fosters student learning
  • Enhance the permeation of Catholicity throughout the district
  • Maintain a current knowledge base through ongoing personal professional development
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal (within the School Act and teacher’s contract)
