Overall Accountability

Under the direction of the Principal and/or teacher, the Independent Studies Assistant supports students by gathering/ordering materials, tests, units from St. Anne Academic Centre, in order for students to acquire additional credits outside of the classroom. The Independent Studies Assistant aids students in their successful completion of a High School Diploma.

 

Specific Accountabilities

  • Assists teachers and students in the delivery of instructional resources
  • Prepares/orders/distributes from various sources appropriate educational materials, tests, units, ADL and on-line courses from St. Anne Academic Centre
  • Monitors and reports to school administration and teachers on student progress and areas of concern
  • Provides accurate data to school administration and teachers, i.e., previous credits attained, credits required, type of credits required (5, 3, or 1; 30-level or any level; Core or CTS, etc.) to assist the teacher with student assessments and records; follow appropriate procedures as identified by school administration and teachers
  • Provides support to students with the Self-Directed program, when requested to do so by school administration and/or teacher
  • Maintains a thorough database of available courses offered through St. Anne Academic Centre as well as other institutions, i.e., Alberta Distant Learning (ADL)

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma and the equivalent of a minimum of one (1) year post-secondary course study preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Edulink and Alberta Education’s Extranet
  • Ability to work independently requiring a high level of accuracy and trust
  • Ability to deal with confidential material and sensitive issues in a manner demonstrating sound judgment and diplomacy
  • Good communication, organization and interpersonal skills
