Overall Accountability
The Occupational Therapist works collaboratively to enable kindergarten children and students in grades 1-6 and English Language Learning preschool children to develop the means and opportunities to engage in and improve their functioning in all aspects of school and home life in an inclusive kindergarten classroom setting through occupational therapies.
The Occupational Therapist interacts with teachers, Education Assistants, other members of the school learning team, Physical Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists and Department of Learning Services to develop in-class, inclusive programs, to monitor the child’s/student’s progress, evaluating outcomes as well as changing and adapting programs as required. The Occupational Therapist makes recommendations in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, the teacher as well as the parents/legal guardians to ensure the success of the child/student in the school, home and/or community.
This position requires travel to schools throughout Calgary Catholic School District.
Specific Accountabilities

Supports children/students and parents/legal guardians to implement programs, develop skills to allow greater success in the kindergarten classroom and for students in grades 1-6, and to permit carry-over from classroom learning to the home setting and into the community

Writes assessment and treatment reports (assists with goals for Learner Support Plans (LSP), year-end summaries, etc.) to be shared with parents/legal guardians, members of the school learning team and Department of Learning Services as well as external professionals

Collaborates with other therapists, when possible, to demonstrate cross-connection, i.e. behaviour and language strategies
