Overall Accountability
The School Wellness Worker provides classroom support to students to increase the student’s chances of success by developing positive skills that assist them in managing issues and events impacting their functioning. The School Wellness Worker is accountable for the development and facilitation of interventions designed to foster stable school relationships, enhance students’ social/emotional wellbeing and establish a school environment that promotes mental health and wellness.
Specific Accountabilities

Delivers one-to-one (1:1) counselling support to students with social/emotional challenges

Provides group counselling support to students

Contributes to the development and facilitation of school-wide initiatives to foster and promote school-wide mental wellness

Provides classroom based psychoeducational support regarding social/emotional needs of students

Provides guidance and consultation to school personnel on the social/emotional needs of students

Delivers crisis intervention and management to the school community, i.e., child welfare concerns, suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self-injury, etc.

Enhances communication and relationships between school and home environments
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work - minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the clinical counselling of children, youth and families in relation to emergent social/emotional/behavioural issues

Master’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work - minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the clinical counselling of children, youth and families in relation to emergent social/emotional/behavioural issues

Experience working with group facilitation, community resources and agencies

Successful completion of training in non-violent crisis intervention

Demonstrated collaboration and team-building skills

Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
