Overall Accountability
The Social Worker supports and assists schools, students and families through the provision of counselling, advice and direction relative to short and long term attendance difficulties.
Specific Accountabilities
- Responds to schools when a student is in conflict with expectations regarding attendance
- Liaises between schools and families
- Assists families in connecting with appropriate community resources
- Makes recommendations and supports school personnel on attendance issues
- Assists schools in meeting Alberta Attendance Board requirements
- Liaises with Alberta Learning, Attendance Board and Alberta Justice
- Maintains statistics and required documentation
Qualifications
- Professional Grid IA - Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field
- Professional Grid II - Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field
- Experience working with students and families
- Registered Social Worker (RSW) designation or eligibility for registration
- Excellent communication,organization and interpersonal skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
