Overall Accountability

The Team Lead provides leadership, direction and support to the Mental Health and Wellness Team (MHWT).  The MHWT supports student success by addressing their social emotional and mental health needs.  The Team Lead supports the day-to-day program operations while also providing oversight and decision-making support to ensure alignment with Learning Services goals.  The Team Lead provides direct supervision to team members which includes case consultation, crisis and risk management, training and development and performance evaluations.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Works collaboratively with other Team Leads and Supervisor.
  • Meets regularly with individual team members.
  • Supports team with emergent situations requiring consultation.
  • Provides guidance to staff regarding student intervention, mitigating risk, case management and best practices
  • Oversees staff hiring and evaluations, while fostering and supporting staff professional growth and development.
  • Provides oversight regarding client documentation and reporting.
  • Ensures team compliance with all applicable policies, practices and procedures.
  • Participates in leadership decisions pertaining to the support of student educational success.
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications       

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work / Psychology or in a related Human Service Field with a minimum of 5 years of Counselling and supervisory experience , or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work / Psychology or in a related Human Service Field with a minimum of 8 years of counselling and supervisory experience.
  • Experience in the clinical counseling of children, youth and families in relation to emergent social / emotional / behavioral issues.
  • Experience with team dynamics with a proven ability to manage and lead.
  • Strong working knowledge of policies, procedures and relevant legislation related to child, youth and family mental health services.
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis management and the ability to make decisions under pressure and without direction.
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven collaboration and management skills.
  • Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and mentoring and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
